Physiotherapists who have obtained a minimum of 150 hours of PAANZ approved acupuncture training and have passed a written assessment and a practical acupuncture safety assessment are eligible to become a Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturist.

All Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturists are then required to maintain a minimum of 40 points over a three year period through continuing education and professional development. These points can be gained by attending Peer Review sessions, National Case History Days and any other PAANZ approved Courses. In addition points are allocated for reading, viewing acupuncture texts and DVD’s. This Register is maintained by PAANZ and enables Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturists together with PAANZ, the Physiotherapy Board of NZ and the NZ College of Physiotherapy to ensure that high standards of practice are being maintained.

Six reasons to become a 'Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturist

    1. All physiotherapists now qualifying through AUT or Otago Universities are entitled to be registered immediately therefore, those members who aren't already registered should take the opportunity to do so particularly with possible rule changes in the HPCA.
    2. The public are more knowledgeable about the different Physiotherapy Services and are likely to be more discerning about the physiotherapist's qualifications.
    3. It helps our promotion as physiotherapy acupuncturists to be able to say we are all registered. At the moment - if you aren't registered, to the public you are no different to someone who has only completed a weekend dry needling course.
    4. PAANZ promotes that being registered means you have to maintain points with ongoing education to remain registered and this is another positive that people like to see.
    5. Good advertising – as your name will be on our nationwide Business Directory for Registered Physiotherapy Acupunturists - available on the PAANZ website for the public, physiotherapists and other health professionals to access http://www.paanz.org.nz/mainmenu83/component/practice.html
    6. You will be able to use the letters 'Reg Phys Acup' after your name which adds credentials to your name which looks good in your advertising.
