Needling Joints

Presented by Susan Kohut
Date: Saturday 12 September
Venue: AUT, North Shore Campus, Northcote, Auckland

Acupuncture is very useful for modifying pain and range of motion. Needling myofascial tissue, such as needling acupuncture points (which are often muscle motor points and trigger points) is extremely useful for musculoskeletal conditions. However needling the joint capsule and associated joint can make a significant difference to pain and change of range of movement. Needling joints can be tricky, particularly in not introducing infectious agents into joints. This course will address needling major joints safely and effectively. It is a one-day course and is to be run at the School of Physiotherapy, AUT Akoranga.

Cupping

Presented by Guy Bailey and Susan Kohut
Date: Sunday 13 September
Venue: AUT, North Shore Campus, Northcote, Auckland

Cupping is a treatment modality that has really come of age. The use of modern technology and materials now means that using a naked flame to produce the suction required is no longer necessary. Coupled with this is some clear demonstration of the efficacy of cupping in recent research papers.

Course participants will learn both Western and TCM concepts of treatment application for cupping treatment, as well as how to integrate this fascinating treatment technique into their physiotherapy practice.

Advance Upper Body - Dry Needling

Presented by Trevor Montgomery
Saturday 03 October – Sunday 04 October
Time: Saturday 8.30am – 5.00pm & Sunday 8.30am – 3.00pm
Burwood Hospital Physio Department, Christchurch

The Advanced Dry Needling course for the Upper Half of the Body aims to teach course participants how to needle myofascial components from T7 upward. This is a very practical course, including the teaching of advanced techniques around the scapulothoracic region, shoulder, upper limbs and neck with particular emphasis on safety and efficacy. One of the major goals is for participants to integrate the use of dry needling into their clinical reasoning process and their clinical approach to treat common (and not so common) upper body conditions.

Case studies will be discussed to further enhance the clinical reasoning behind the use of dry needling, and its integration with other physiotherapy skill sets, such as manual therapy, muscle balancing, exercise prescription and postural advice.

Course Prerequisite:

Attendance requires completion of one of the following courses: PAANZ Foundation Dry Needling Course, APA Introductory Segmental and Dry Needling Course, Post-Graduate Western Acupuncture qualification from AUT or Otago. If you have undertaken dry needling training from another provider please contact the PAANZ administrator to see if it qualifies as a pre-requisite for the Advanced Course.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Presented by Robyn Vintiner & Linley Leuthard
Date: 17 & 18 October
Venue: AUT, North Shore Campus, Northcote, Auckland

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture/Acupuncture Facelift is becoming a more popular, non-surgical method for those who want not only to maintain beauty, radiance and vitality in the face, but also improve their overall health and well-being. Acupuncture for facial beauty is a wonderful, holistic, alternative approach to fighting the aging process without surgery or injection and it is less expensive, safer than plastic surgery or botox injections, and has no side effects, toxicity, inflammation or recovery time.

One of the first things to notice is the improvement in skin colour, texture & muscle tone. The next thing is a reduction in the fine facial lines & then deep lines get smaller. One client I had was tanned after the summer. We noticed as her deep lines became more shallow, the colour changed to white because they hadn’t seen the sun before.

I have a client who comes just for a pampering session because she feels so good after a session. You can get a whole new clientele who are prepared to pay more for their beauty sessions than they would for physiotherapy

Treatment procedure:

While the needles are in place, you get a short massage of legs and arms.

As the needles are removed an organic rosehip gel and cream are applied.

A facial and neck massage finishes off the treatment so you leave feeling pampered.

These 2 days for this training is not only a learning process but also is like a weekend spa for you! You should have 2 sessions over the weekend.
